I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what it means to truly show up for yourself. In our fast-paced lives, it’s so easy to get pulled in a million directions—work, family, social obligations, side projects—and forget the most important relationship we have: the one with ourselves. I know what it’s like to get off track—gaining weight, losing it, and feeling the weight of stress and anxiety on both my body and mind. I’ve lived periods of life that felt completely out of balance, and I know firsthand the physical and emotional toll it takes.
A few years ago, my life was completely out of balance, and I could feel the weight of it in every area. I’ve always loved fitness, but for nearly two years I stopped working out consistently. I went from running half marathons to gaining over 35 pounds. I was eating out several times a week, skipping my daily devotional, and constantly running on empty. Between finishing my degree, working full-time, and shuttling my kids to their activities, I had little time left for myself—and it showed. When I finally saw the scale hit that 35-pound mark, I knew something had to change.
That’s when I turned to my mornings and decided to reclaim them for myself. Each day before my family woke up, I carved out time to move my body, pray, read, and meditate. That simple decision reshaped my life. I lost the weight, regained my confidence, deepened my relationship with God, and found a sense of peace I hadn’t felt in years. My anxiety lifted, and I started to feel more grounded and in control. That’s why my morning routine isn’t just a habit—it’s a lifeline. It’s taught me that the body and mind are deeply connected: when you treat your body well, your mind and spirit follow.
This routine has become my reset button and a source of strength. The movement, the breathing, the intentional start—it all compounds into clarity, energy, and motivation. And the best part? It doesn’t take anything extraordinary to create that shift. Small, consistent actions make the biggest difference. If you’re feeling off track, start with one thing—whether it’s a short walk, stretching, journaling, or even drinking more water. Give yourself permission to start where you are and grow from there. Consistency beats intensity every time.
Your body is your home. When you treat it with love and care, it will support you in ways you can’t even imagine—strengthening not just your muscles, but your mindset, your energy, and your capacity to live fully.
Take a moment today to check in with yourself: what’s one small step you can take to show your body some love? Your future self will thank you.
